hey friends! it's been quite a while since i posted on this page! i've actually been going to http://hammytime.tumblr.com/ for my recent updates and random thoughts....feel free to join me there too! i can't believe we're already into Q4 of 2011.....i hope it's been a remarkable year for you. i know it has for me! i've celebrated my 1 year wedding anniversary....how cool is that!!! i also have been inspired creatively and musically.....singing on projects and DJing at events.....i'm working on keeping it positive during the ups and downs because i know that God has the plan and i just need to get out of the way! of course, it's easier said than done -- but i'm up for the challenge!! xo!

What a fantastic reminder! It seems as though we forget how unique and special we are. It's so easy to get caught up in comparisons and complaints...I wish I were more this way...or...If only I was...But the amazing thing is, is that we are all here for a reason. We all have a gift to share. The journey is figuring out what that gift is...and once you do - WOW. The sky's the limit on what you can do!

In Honor of Teena Marie - Miss Lady T

Like many around the world, Teena Marie was an inspiration to me. I was so saddened to hear of her sudden death at just 54 years old. I remember when I first was introduced to her music by a close friend...and from my first listen of "Square Biz," I was hooked.

Outside of her amazing vocal range and singing ability, she was an accomplished guitar player, songwriter and producer. She inspired me to sing, to write and try new things with music.

I tried to see her in concert almost every time she came to the Los Angeles area...and in the beginning, she would always be on tour with her mentor, Rick James. I have so many great memories of them on stage together -- and of course, their famous duet -- "Fire and Desire." How I LOVE to sing that one!!!

I saw their last concert together, before Rick James passed away...and her live shows after his death always felt a bit empty without him there. She kept a place for him on stage always.

There was something so much fun about seeing her in concert -- the "grown and sexy" atmosphere, the crowd always singing along to every song she sang...She will be missed.

In honor of her life, her legacy and all she inspired, I recorded an acapella version of her beautiful song "Portuguese Love." I hope you enjoy it!!!

Hello world! I'm up rather early after a fun night of live music...I went to the Dead Weather show with my buddy Lyndsay and we really had a blast. My favorite John C Reilly (Dewey Cox!) was in attendance...but I only was able to admire him from across the room. Lyndsay snuck a pic on her iPhone....can you tell which one he is?!

Anyhooooo - there's another evening of music tonight at the Purple Lounge! That's right, it's my monthly dance party COMPACT DISCO! I'm really excited to get up and select the tunes for the first part of the night. I think I'll do some singing too. It's a free party and we have 2 for 1 well drinks until 11pm! Music Really Does Make A Difference

I figure I'll try something a little different and actually write down some thoughts o' mine. Good idea? Yes! Last night was so much fun at Verdugo Bar. I actually had never been there before - even though I lived in Eagle Rock for many years....a long time ago...but perhaps the bar wasn't even there when I was living out East...East being off the 2 FWY. It's a cute space with bartenders who care - can you believe it! They have a huge beer menu and, let's say you order a bottle and step away for a moment...they'll put that bottle back in the fridge for you - because really, who wants a warm beer! Not me!

The whole reason for me being at said fantastic bar was because I was asked by my buddies, El Dopa and Ted Loc, to play some music. They throw a monthly party called Music Makes The Difference and since I love to select tunes and share with the people...of course I said OK! I already host a party each month, so fortunately I had my tunes all ready to go and I was comfortable with what I wanted to play. I'm not necessarily the kind of DJ who maps out the exact songs - I'm more of a "let's see what's moving me in the moment" kind of selector. And of course, I always try to incorporate my original work into the mix. He he he... El Dopa let me know that they never had a live vocalist at MMTD before, so I was very glad to break that seal. I think the most fun is mixing in one of my own tunes, singing it live and people not realizing it's me singing! I'm a trickster!

Also at the party last night were artists Christina M Felice and Francis Poland, sharing their work on the flat screens. Deejay Analog also played a killer set after mine! I just love when people join together in a creative space and set the vibe for what always turns into a lovely evening.

How great to collaborate on a track...and then find out that the track is getting released through a Belgian record label! YAY COLE MEDINA AND SLEAZY MCQUEEN! YAY MOOD CLUB MUSIC!!

Maybe you all remember the 1980's classic movie FAME? Well, did you know about the FAME remake that is coming out this September (Sept 25th to be exact)? Aside from it being a great piece of entertainment, the reason we're mentioning is it that Anne was hired to do some background vocals for the theme song! She got to spend a day singing with amazing Naturi Naughton (you know her as Lil' Kim from the movie Notorious) plus a few other talented LA based singers. So, go check out the movie when it comes out -- and listen real close to see if you can hear Anne! ;-)

Congratulations to LA's own Anne Montone!!! On Saturday, March 7th, 2009, the singer/songwriter became the newest member of the Scion A/V family by winning the Los Angeles title in their nationwide vocalist competition. From hundreds of submissions, Scion invited the top 10 singers to their Scion Art Gallery in Culver City to perform in front of judges Franki Chan of IHeartComix, Vice Records A&R, Chris Roberts, and Dave 1 from the group Chromeo. The twist? Each competitor was given brand new music and only one week to write, rehearse, and perform 3 new songs. At the end of the 3-round, 6-hour competition the judges announced a unanimous decision that Anne's vocal styling, her fashion sense, and stage presence made for an authentic and heartfelt, winning performance. Special thanks to Producer K12 and Fashion Artist Ginger McGann.

We're well into 2009 and I hope you're all feelin' FINE! I mean, what else can we do in such a down economy but to create and enjoy what we do have. At least that's what I'm trying to do. Back to basics! As I am sure many of you are doing, I've been keeping my nose to the grindstone!

Non-Event News: I've teamed up with LA's own SLY DOGGIE PRODUCTIONS and German production company STEADYWORKS for tracks on my album. Not only are we working on the LP, but we're also getting songs together for TV/FILM submissions. If you are interested in placing some of our work, let me know! Sly Doggie and I are going to be on a compilation coming out this Spring...I'll keep you posted on the Where/When, for sures...

It's Almost 2009! Happy Happy!

I can't believe that we're already at the end of 2008. It just seems like yesterday that I was a little kid, hanging at the Hum Dinger with my dad, sharing a swirl soft serve. 2009!? It sounds so far in the future -- and then I realize that it's just about to start. We're in the future - we ARE the future. Oh boy so heavy...and so exciting!

Of course, the holidays are always a lovely time of year - mixed with emotions, stress, family and friends. Sometimes all the emotions and stress come from family and friends! LOL. But seriously, I spent some quality time with my family and really was reminded how much love I have in my life. I am thankful for my parents (married 45 years in Feb!) and my 3 other brothers (12, 10 and 7 years older than me!) who all played a huge part in who I am today...and what type of parent, wife and friend I will be tomorrow.

I saw this commercial the other day and am so glad it's been posted up on YouTube. Coming from a home where my dad was present and an influential part of my life, I find great truth in this 30 second spot. Let's go into the new year remembering positive intent. Be the good neighbor. Treat others as you would like to be treated. Times have been pretty rough and I think if we all just get back to our basics, things can possibly become a little better. If anything, try to get through your day with a smile on your face - they're contagious! Happy 2009!!!

Early Holidays and Laryngitis

It's kind of fun being snowed in! I've spent the last 5 or so days up in Portland visiting my family and while the weather reports threatened snow...I just didn't believe it. Until I got a phone call from my brother Paul on Sunday morning telling me to look outside! Snow!! It really happened! If only I could enjoy it. I've seriously been suffering from laryngitis since Friday...and I'm sure going to see Vampire Weekend and hanging out with the guys at a smokey bar didn't help. HA! But when you're with family, what are you supposed to do!? Fortunately I was able to visit with my grandmother before the voice left me...but I hope hope hope that the vocals are back by Thursday as I'm supposed to be singing at the Broadway Bar! I guess my body will let me know what the plan will be. My parents swear by gargling with warm salt water...so you can believe I've been all about it. Tomorrow is the last day in Portland and I think the snow isn't expected back until Wednesday...I really am glad that I've been able to have as much family time as I did. Movies, popcorn, wine, Scrabble, and lots of laughs. Yah!

Soup's ON!

So I was in the mood for some homemade soup and I had a bunch of carrots in the fridge. I did me some looking through my books and found a perfect recipe in the Moosewood Cookbook. I had to do a bit of variation based on what I had in my kitchen...and boy was it delish!!! Read below for the easy instructions.

Inspired by Moosewood Cookbook (copywrite 1977, 1992 by Mollie Katzen)

Homemade Croutons

Sauté cubed bread (whole wheat, sourdough, rye, etc) in butter, chopped garlic and your choice of seasonings for about 10 minutes. Then move the bread to a baking sheet to toast in oven for about 20 minutes at about 300degrees until crisp. Keep an eye on them though – they can burn fast!

Herbed Carrot Soup

This soup can be vegan. Just replace oil for butter and use vegetable stock instead of water.

1 lb carrots
3 small red potatoes
4 stalks of celery
4 cups water (or favorite broth/stock)
1 Tbs butter or oil
1 cup chopped onions
1 1/2 tsp salt
2 medium cloves garlic, crushed
1/2 tsp oregano
3 tsp frozen basil
1 Tbs lemon juice (or to taste)

1) Peel and chop the carrots and potatoes, chop the celery, and place them in a medium-large saucepan with the water (or broth). Bring to a boil, cover and simmer until the veggies are tender (about 15 minutes).

2) Meanwhile, heat oil in a small skillet. Add onions and salt – sauté over medium heat for about 5 minutes. Add garlic and herbs, sauté for about 5 minutes more. Add lemon juice.

3) Combine everything together in a blender or food processor and puree for a few minutes. Pour back into medium-large pot and simmer for about 15 minutes. Serve hot, topped with those homemade croutons!!

YUM!!! ENJOY!!!

There are more people in Ethiopia without clean water than any other country in Africa. There are 70+ million people living in the country, and 75% of the population lacks access to safe, clean drinking water.

Only one in every four people in Ethiopia have access to clean water while just 13 percent have access to basic sanitation.

Collecting water is a back-breaking chore. Many women walk up to 3 hours, carrying 40-pound jerry cans filled with polluted water that is likely to make them sick.

hello hello! i hope all of you reading this had a lovely Thanksgiving...full of friends, family, love and of course - food...last year at this time i was in Germany visiting some friends and my family over there. this time around, i hosted a nice potluck meal and cooked my first turkey! but aside from the large amounts of food on the table, i really feel blessed to have such amazing friends and family in my life. the love and support really makes pushing through our world much easier. many thanks to you all.

we're almost in 2009...which i can't believe! so take this last month of 2008 to reflect on where you've been and where you are headed...and i'll do the same :-)

Anne Montone

Anne Montone is the ultimate representation of the millennial woman – warm spirited, confident, talented, and successful. Since moving from Portland, Oregon to Los Angeles in pursuit of a Women's Studies degree at Occidental College, Anne has lived life to the fullest; exploring the many shades of her gifts and talents. While in college, Anne dove deep into her musical upbringing, performing in several popular stage productions. After graduation, Anne joined four of her college classmates and became the lead singer of a group called Elephonic. The group eventually attained a modest, international success with music placements in the popular TV series "Girlfriends," 2006's award-winning film "Quinceañera," several live performances and placements on compilation albums for Crocs and Scion.

As an artist, not only did she have to find a way to deliver her artistic message, but a way to pay her bills as well. "That was probably one of the toughest periods of my life," she says with an ironic smile. "Thank God for the support of my friends and family!" Anne was able to tap into her business management skills and maximize her industry visibility while working with the likes of URB Magazine, Very Short Movies Festival, legendary concert promoters Bill Silva and Andy Hewitt, and several freelance event management and promotion positions.

While working full time, Anne managed to complete her first solo EP, "Rated M," in 2007, an album that garnered her coast-to-coast performances, regional radio play, merchandising, and opportunities to work with some of today's hottest producers and performance talent. Anne is currently a Regional Manager for 10 Cane Rum and is putting the finishing touches on her 2nd solo effort, "DEFINED," due this fall. Hello All! I can’t believe this year is almost over and 2008 is well on its way! I hope this past year has been a wonderful adventure full of success, love, life, and victory. I wanted to take some time to say thank you to each and every one of you for supporting my 2007 debut release EP, Rated M. To everyone who came to a show, made a radio request, purchased a CD, collaborated with me, shared my music with a loved one, or supported in your own creative way... THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!

Anne Montone is a rare combination of endless musical talent and unyielding business savvy. Aside from being crowned the 2009 Los Angeles Champion of the Scion vocalist competition, the singer/songwriter has racked up numerous accolades through television and film placements, clothing endorsements, live performances, DJ gigs, international industry backing and rave reviews in both online and print publications.

What started out as a stint as lead singer of the trip hop group, Elephonic, has exploded into an impressive solo artist career. Throughout the years, Anne’s musical talent has graced the works of the Emmy nominated sitcom Girlfriends, the critically acclaimed film “Quinceañera,” winner of the Sundance Jury Award, and compilations for internationally recognized brands like Crocs and Scion. Recently, she was tapped by London Underground Shoes to be a vehicle for their brand. Shortly thereafter, Von Dutch Originals invited her into its Artists In Residency program, where she joined the likes of award winning talents like Esai Morales, Angie Stone, and Gary Baseman, to name a few.

As a performer, Anne has had numerous showcases and radio appearances all across the country including top billing during New York’s CMJ festival for the past three years. Always in the public eye, her talent recently caught the attention of Interscope A&R Ben Gordon (Jurassic 5, Mickey Avalon), Sly Doggie Production’s Christian Davis (Rodney Jerkins, Day26 – Making The Band 4), and Oscar nominated German beat makers, Steadyworks (Phantom of the Opera 2, Peter Pan). In addition to working with them on the completion of her second solo project, Anne has also formulated business partnerships by writing, recording and licensing songs with them for artists and brands both known and up-and-coming.
